Others Dared to Dream Before Us

There are other stories of worlds close by, yet unreachable. My favorite is the Middlemarch, made famous by Michæl Moorcock in his Von Bek novels. It’s an æthyric world that spans the borders between earth and heaven. Maps of it include the real world with slices of Middlemarch landscape scattered over it.

The cosmology discovered by the Hermetic Sciences includes such places, as well (vide, my essay – Making Magic in Fiction, esp. Method Three.)

What does this have to do with freedom?

Just that for every person terrified of it, there are people who long for it; who dream of it.

We longed to fly. We longed to fly to the Moon.

We long to visit other worlds, other planes—Færieland, Elysium, Asgard—as easily as stepping through a door.

In horror movies, the closed door is a source of terror. Properly, such doors should be a source of wonder.

Next time you find a small, oddly shaped, or out of place door. Try the handle. You never know what marvels might await you on the other side.
