My Simple Solution to all the World's Ills
It’s clear from this video alone that Graham Hancock has problems with the modern world. It’s also apparent that he makes no distinction between contemporary religion and science’s pursuit of knowledge about nature. He clearly thinks that the evils that beset us can be laid at the feet of those irritating scientists with their insistence on learning as much as possible about nature so as to give some greedy bastards the tools with which to accumulate wealth, thereby destroying everything that’s good and holy. If only science weren’t around, we’d be living in Arcadia.
Hancock also feels that –
ONE – Drugs are bad, that Big Pharma is a real thing and an evil that must be combated.
TWO – Modern medicine is a horrible way to treat mental and physical illness. A nice walk in the country will fix any mental malady.
THREE – Einstein and Oppenheimer, not the politicians who ordered the development and the using of the atomic bomb, are both (metaphorically) burning in hell because of Hiroshima.
FOUR – Same with the Chinese chemists who gave us gunpowder. Every death from firearms is a black mark on their souls.
FIVE – Speaking of souls, science is a cold, unfeeling pursuit which leaves us spiritually dead, drug addicted sex fiends, obsessed only with living in comfort and security. Fuck those inquisitive sons of whores!
SEVEN – Oh, and people are having way too much fun.
That about sum it up, Graham?
My Thesis
It won’t take nearly as long to articulate my solution to the world’s ills.
I say ‘my solution’ though it is a well known, sensible solution agreed upon by billions. I just happen to be one of them.
Trust the science.
That’s it.
When science concludes that the global average temperature is rising year over year and we’re causing it, trust that this conclusion is true and accurate.
When science says that another seven degree Celsius rise in global temperature will sterilize the Earth, trust that this is true and accurate.
Trust science enough to consult with scientists on the best way to stop global climate temperature increase and return the temperature back to something safe. Follow their advice.
On the pollution of the air, water, and soil, follow the above recommendations.
When science pronounces its findings on the causal connection between collective delusion on one hand—and war, poverty, famine, and all forms of deliberate human cruelty on the other, trust that these pronouncements are the most complete and accurate of which humans are capable. Follow science’s advice on the best way to minimize collective delusions.
Even on politics, the science of psychology has many true and useful things to say. Their conclusions can help fix the civil evils that beset so many nations.
Also on society, more broadly considered.
And Sexuality.
And child health and welfare.
On everything within the sphere of scientific investigation, trust the science.
Knowledge will save us.
Ignorance will doom us to extinction.
